Petit Larceny: An A misdemeanor, petit larceny is the unlawful taking of property or services valued at no more than $1,000. These cases are typically shoplifting or stealing someone else's property. This is punishable by a fine, one year in jail, or up to three years probation.
Grand Larceny: Grand larcenies have the same elements as petit larceny, except the potential punishment increases as the value of the property increases.
